Laptop Alarm is designed to be easy and straightforward in use. This document provides a quick description to get you started
1. Installation
After you downloaded Laptop Alarm, make sure you are logged in as an administrative user. Double-click the installation file you downloaded. After a few simple steps, you are required to restart your computer. Please note that this is a critical step, necessary in order to fully secure your computer.
Create a password
The first thing you need to do is making sure that you have passwords on all accounts on your computer. Laptop Alarms tight integration into Windows makes the lack of a password a serious security flaw. Laptop Alarm will warn you with a warning icon in the system tray if your account lacks a password. 2. Using Laptop Alarm
By default, Laptop Alarm is started when you start Windows. Laptop Alarm runs in the background, and starts early in the process in order to fully protect your computer. When Laptop Alarm is started, you will see the Laptop Alarm logo in the system tray. You can right click the menu to view the options Laptop Alarm offers.
Locking the computer
Laptop Alarm is tightly integrated in the Windows environment. This means Laptop Alarm does not interfere with the workflow you already had. Locking your computer is as simple as pressing windows key-L or clicking Start->Logoff. This will present you with the Laptop Alarm lock screen. Moving your mouse brings up the Windows logon screen, and logging in to windows brings you back to your desktop.
When the computer is locked, the alarm is sound when your computer is disconnected from its power cable or when any external peripherals are disconnected. Laptop Alarm will remind you when your power cable is not connected.
Auto locking
It is also possible to automatically lock your computer after some time. In order for this to work, you need to follow the following steps:
- Set your screensaver to the amount of time after which you want your computer to lock.
- Check 'on resume, display Welcome screen'
- In the same window, click 'Power.." and set 'Turn off monitor' to the same amount of time.
- Click the tab 'Advanced' and check 'Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby'
3. The Preferences panel
Laptop Alarm is straightforward in use, but some things can be modified. To access the preferences panel, click the system tray icon. You will be presented with a dashboard that checks some things that are crucial to the security of your computer. Make sure to resolve any problems listed there
The sounds panel
In the sounds panel you can modify the type of sound and even supply your own sound. You can also adjust the volume with which to sound the alarm. The standard volume controls in Windows will be inactive during the alarm.
4. Buy Laptop Alarm
